RealView ICE (RVI) and RealView Trace 2 (RVT2)

RealView ICE (RVI) and RealView Trace 2 (RVT2) Image
RealView ICE (RVI) and RealView Trace 2 (RVT2) are ARM's legacy target connection units, and are no longer in production.

DS-5 and RVDS users can benefit from a faster, flexible and cost-effective solution for debug and trace with the next generation target connection, DSTREAM.

RVI provides run-control debug functionality for both DS-5 and RVDS users. RVT2 adds trace capabilities to RVI for RVDS users only.

Operating Systems

  • Windows XP Professional service pack 3
  • Windows 7 Professional
  • Windows 7 Enterprise
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Desktop and Workstation option, Standard

Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of these operating systems are supported when connecting to the host via Ethernet. If connecting via USB, only 32-bit versions are supported.

Host PC requirements

  • Pentium IBM-compatible machine
  • An unused USB port, if direct connection to the run control unit is required
  • A TCP/IP connection, if remote connection to the run control unit is required

Target interface

  • Debug protocol: JTAG and Serial-Wire Debug
  • Target connectors:
    • 20-pin and 14-pin ARM JTAG
    • 14-pin TI OMAP
    • 10-pin high density CoreSight connectors
  • Interface reference voltage: 1.0V to 5.0V, configurable by target
  • JTAG interface speed: 2KHz to 50MHz
  • Maximum distance between RVI and the target: 3m
  • Maximum software download speed: 1.7MBytes/s
  • Remote target reset: Yes

  Host interfaces

  • Connection types: USB 2.0 and 10/100baseT Ethernet
  • Connection protocols:
    • RVI-API (to RVD Debugger)
    • GDBServer (to GDB)
    • RDDI (to DS-5 and other debuggers)

Processor and target IP support

  • ARM processor architectures:
    • ARM7, ARM9, ARM11
    • Cortex-A, Cortex-R, Cortex-M
