The ARM® RealView® Developer Kit for ST, specifically configured for ST's recently announced MCU family, is a comprehensive tools package for writing, compiling, debugging and integrating systems initially for the ST ARM7TDMI® and ARM720T TM core-based STR71XF and STR72x microcontroller family of products. This developer kit is based on components of the ARM RealView Development Suite software and RealView debug hardware solution, with functionality tailored to the specific requirements of ST products and is aimed at designers seeking 32-bit CPU performance at a price that is highly competitive with 8-bit and 16-bit products.
The RealView developer tools solution for ST is based upon ARM’s RealView Developer Suite technology; specifically: - A targeted ARM and Thumb® C compiler
- A powerful GUI-based targeted debugger
- A targeted RealView ICE Micro Edition, JTAG debug interface, that provides JTAG run control through a standard 8 MHz JTAG TAP at data rates of 100 KB/second
Specific optimizations are provided for the ARM7TM architecture delivering even further gains in code speed and size.

The targeted debugger offers Extended Target Visibility allowing enhanced visibility of memory mapped peripherals for the STR710 MCU device. Additional awareness capabilities will be made available for newer ST devices as they become available.

The RealView Developer Kit for ST is available in three versions to meet the various market requirements; the RealView Developer Kit for ST Preview Edition, the RealView Developer Kit for ST Basic Edition and the full RealView Developer Kit for ST. The Preview Kit is an evaluation version that is fully functioning for 45 days and enables evaluation of the ST silicon and the ARM development tools. The Basic Edition offers the developer a one year license for the Developer Kit with some additional restrictions applied to the compiler optimizations and to the JTAG connection data rates to the ST silicon. The full RealView Developer Kit for ST offers fully optimized C code with optimized target connection data rate capabilities.
The Basic Edition is upgradeable to the full Developer Kit.
Additionally the full developer kit, RealView Developer Kit for ST, can be upgraded to the RealView Developer Suite through ARM's RealView Distribution network for users who wish to use the ARM tools for developing with the complete range of ARM cores available from ARM's silicon partners.
