SOAFEE (Scalable Open Architecture for Embedded Edge) is an Arm-led initiative redefining how automotive software is developed and deployed. With over 150 contributing partners, SOAFEE provides an open standards-based approach to address the real-time, safety, and performance needs of modern vehicles—while embracing the flexibility of cloud-native development.
Built on the high-performance, energy-efficient Arm Neoverse and Arm Cortex-A platforms, SOAFEE empowers automotive developers with scalable architectures and tools that streamline development cycles, promote collaboration, and reduce time-to-market. From enabling early software prototyping in the cloud to real-world deployment using containerized stacks, SOAFEE accelerates innovation for software-defined vehicles (SDVs).

Arm Powers SOAFEE Virtual Automotive Development
The SOAFEE initiative is built on the Arm compute platform, which features:
- The Armv9 architecture and Automotive Compute Subsystems (CSS)
- Arm-based virtual prototyping ahead of silicon availability
- Cloud-native tools such as containers, hypervisors, and orchestration
- Mixed-criticality workload support using Linux and RTOS side-by-side
These technologies enable scalable, safe, and high-performance software-defined vehicles (SDVs). By leveraging Arm’s pervasive compute—from microcontrollers to application processors—SOAFEE accelerates development with real-time, cloud-based prototyping, enabling developers to reduce time-to-market by up to two years.
