Biometric System for Patient Identification

Approximately 1 billion people on Earth, or one in every seven, lack formal proof of identity. Trapped in this “identification gap,” they struggle to receive access to basic services such as healthcare, finance, and education.

Simprints is a nonprofit company aiming to bridge that gap with an accurate, affordable solution that helps ensure every person counts. The Simprint Vero Scanner, a mobile fingerprint scanning solution for healthcare providers and patients in developing countries, is optimized for fingerprints that are often burned, scarred, or otherwise worn. Furthermore, the Vero Scanner is lightweight, dustproof, and water-resistant, making it ideal for use in remote or harsh environments.

When internet connectivity is limited, the Vero Scanner can be used in an offline mode, uploading new patient data when connectivity is restored. Data is securely stored with GPS coordinates and time stamps for ongoing tracking.

Simprints is currently exploring additional applications for its biometric technology, such as financial inclusion and aid distribution in developing countries.

Featured Technology

Simprints’ Vero Scanner is powered by Arm® Cortex®-M0 technology. After scanning a patient’s fingerprints, the scanner creates a unique ID for that patient. The scanner then uses a secure Bluetooth connection to access the patient’s health records, which are transmitted to their healthcare provider’s smartphone.
