A system memory management unit (SMMU) handles all aspects of IO memory management, including address translation caching and hardware driven memory page table walks. It enforces memory protection and access, and is designed for use in a virtualized system where multiple guest operating systems are managed by a hypervisor.

The System Memory Management Unit Family
Arm SMMU v3.2 compliant MMU-700 is compatible with Arm v8.4 and v9 CPU’s. It enables virtualization in the Arm Secure World and QoS for IO traffic. MMU-700 is built for PCIe Gen5 BW.
Software compatible with MMU-600 and additional safety features targeting ASIL B to ASIL D systems, including fault management unit for error detection and reporting. The CoreLink MMU-600AE is part of the Arm Safety Ready program.
Highly scalable with support for millions of translation contexts. Designs can be scaled from small to large-scale systems while maintaining a common driver framework. TrustZone Media Protection protects high-value 4K premium content.
The CoreLink MMU-500 is compatible with a wide range of bus master types and capabilities, offering maximum flexibility in implementing efficient SoC designs that need to support virtualized applications.
