Reducing energy use saves money, increases our energy security, and reduces the pollution that is emitted from non-renewable sources of energy. Leaving appliances on unnecessarily can lead to nasty surprises in utility bills, as well as pose a safety risk.
Ecoisme is an energy-saving system that combines a utility switch and energy monitoring to help reduce energy consumption save consumers money. The Ecoisme home energy monitoring kit comprises a mobile application and an energy monitor installed in the breaker panel. It informs users how much electricity is being used to power their gadgets and what it is costing them.
The sensor in the breaker panel automatically detects devices that are plugged into sockets, and the app provides energy consumption insights, for example how each item is contributing to the home’s overall energy usage with suggested ways to improve efficiency, such as replacing the air conditioner filter. It will send alerts when lights or an iron has been left on, and predict monthly bills.
Ecoisme’s designers believe that by putting information on energy use at people’s fingertips they could help home owners cut their electricity consumption by up to 15 percent.
Ecoisme’s features are enabled by an STMicroelectronics STM32F4 series SoC that is powered by a high performance ARM® Cortex®-M4 processor. It integrates with other smart home devices as well as solar energy systems, and can advise people of the best time to use, store or sell their home-generated power.
