ARM Showcases Innovation in Mobile Technology at 2010 GSMA Mobile World Congress

12 February 2010

WHAT:           At the 2010 GSMA Mobile World Congress(MWC) in Barcelona, ARM will show the latest innovations in smartphones and mobile computing, including a host of ARM Powered® devices, the latest company and Partner news and Partner demos.  Highlights at the show include:

The ARM Personal Web 2.0

ARM will showcase a collection of software technologies running on the ARM®architecture that makes Web 2.0 personal, including the latest enhancements for mobile web browsing and Adobe® Flash Player 10.1.

ARM Performance for the Web

A collection of the latest mobile devices will be on show at MWC, including those designed with the ARM Cortex™-A8 processor-based Texas Instruments’ OMAP™ 3 processor, such as the Motorola®  Droid/Milestone, Palm®Pre™, Samsung®  i8910HD and the Nokia®  N900. In addition, the Google® Nexus One, HTC HD2 and Lenovo®  Skylight, based on the ARM v7A Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ chipset, will also be on display.

ARM Physical IP

ARM also will be showcasing the first 28nm wafer with High-K Metal Gate (HKMG) processtechnology; demonstrating the advantages of early enablement with their foundry Partners to accelerate the migration to advance node design in next-generation SoCs.

Cortex Unbound

ARM also will showcase a new generation of multicore Cortex-A9 MPCore™processor-based devices due to come to market over the next year, including quad-core technology from NEC, the new dual-core NVIDIA® Tegra™ Mobile Web Processor and Texas Instruments’ dual-core OMAP 4 processor.

Mali GPU for Accelerated Multimedia

For all of the graphics gurus at MWC, ARM will demonstrate the industry-leading Mali™ GPU in a variety of gaming, UI and navigation applications.

The ARM Computing Continuum

ARM explores the emerging continuum of mobile devices and form factors beyond the phone; including smartbooks, tablets, hybrids, eReaders and more. These devices bring anywhere, anytime, all-day computing to life based on the low-power ARM architecture.

Solution Center for Android

In 2009, ARM launched the Solution Center for Android™ (SCA), a resource for designers and developers of ARM technology-based products running on Android, the open source platform from the Open Handset Alliance™. A program of the ARM Connected Community™, the SCA has participation from more than 50 members; once again demonstrating the strength of the ARM ecosystem.

This year at MWC ARM will demo several Partner achievements on Android, including:

·         Thundersoft Smartbook UI – Android as a real computing OS

·         Symmetric Multi-Processing(SMP) – Android OS with SMP running multiple applications simultaneously

·         Mobile Internet Device(MID)/Personal Media Player(PMP)-style devices from ZiiLABS and OMAP 3 processor-based Archos 5

·         ODroid – an inexpensive hardware development platform for Android developers

ARM Tools for Symbian, Linux and Android

ARM will also showcase hardware-assisted performance analysis on the Cortex-A processor family, featuring non-intrusive profiling of applications over unlimited duration for Symbian, Linux and Android.
