AllWinner Technology Selects ARM Cortex CPU and Mali GPU Technologies To Bring Integrated SoC To Android OS-Based, Connected Consumer Devices

AllWinner Technology Co. Ltd., a leader in High Definition (HD) media semiconductor solutions, has licensed the ARM® Cortex™-A8 processor and the Mali™-400 MP Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), bringing high definition displays within a low power envelope to a wide range of Android™ OS-based connected consumer products, from tablets through to multimedia systems for automotive.  

Driven by consumer demand for excellence in user experiences and extended battery life through greater power efficiency, Allwinner selected the combination of ARM CPU and GPU products to bring optimized SoC solutions to devices including tablets, smart TVs, Personal Media Players, eBooks, smart media boxes, IP cameras and multimedia solutions for automotive.  

The Cortex-A8 processor has been selected to enable advanced devices in a brand new era of connected, smart HD media experiences.  The high performance, connected HD video performance and cost efficiency characteristics of the highly integrated Allwinner SoC make it widely applicable to both current and emerging application areas.   

The Mali-400 MP GPU brings scalable, high performance graphics to complement the Cortex-A8 CPU, bringing an optimized solution to a widerange of Android devices.   

Mali-400 MP is the world's first OpenGL® ES 2.0 conformant embedded multi-core GPU.  It provides 2D and 3D acceleration with performance scalable up to 1080p resolutions, while maintaining ARM leadership on power and bandwidth efficiency.                        

Allwinner Technology will also benefit from the strength of the ARM Connected Community®, giving access to a comprehensive software ecosystem.  In addition, the ARM Mali Ecosystem brings together a growing community of silicon companies, OEMs, software vendors, content providers and developers creating the highest quality graphics across the broadest range of consumer devices.  These communities support Allwinner Technology’s dedication to fulfilling the product and time-to-market requirements of its OEM customers and the demands of the end consumer.

The Allwinner Technology SoC design will be available from Q2, 2011.
