Semicast Predicts ARM to be the Leading 32-Bit Microcontroller Architecture In 2011

05 May 2009

Revenue growth driven by the ARM Cortex-M3 and Cortex-M0 processors

WHAT:
Semicast Research, a leading provider of independent market research on the semiconductor and electronics industry, has forecast that ARM will become the leading 32-bit microcontroller (MCU) architecture in 2011, ahead of Power Architecture and x86.

Driven in particular by the introduction of low cost parts based on the ARM® Cortex™-M3 and Cortex-M0 processors, Semicast predicts that ARM MCU revenues will increase to almost $2.8 billion in 2013, a CAGR of 21%.

Colin Barnden, principal analyst at Semicast Research and study author commented “As was evident at the recent Embedded Systems Conference in San Jose, the ARM architecture continues to gain momentum in the MCU market, with suppliers such as Atmel, Luminary Micro, NXP and STMicroelectronics all demonstrating Cortex-M3 processor-based MCUs and NXP also introducing the first parts based on the Cortex-M0 processor”.
