downarrowDo I need to connect nSRST to the 20-pin JTAG connector?
Applies to: JTAG Debug Issues, Multi-ICE, RealView ICE (RVI)

It is not strictly necessary to connect nSRST to the 20-pin JTAG connector, but we recommend it as explained in the "System Design Guidelines" chapters of the Multi-ICE and RealView ICE user guides.

nSRST is used by Multi-ICE and RealView ICE during:

  • Debug of Intel XScale processors
  • Reset-on-startup connection (only Multi-ICE)
  • Reset the core from the debugger
  • Reset detection

nSRST must be connected to enable AutoConfiguration of some processors.

If you don't connect the system reset to a pin of your ASIC, the functionality above will not be available. In this case, you should at least ensure that the system reset is pulsed low at power-up.
