Applies to: ARM Architecture and Instruction Sets, Assembler

Since it was originally developed in the mid 1980s, the ARM architecture and instruction set has developed through a number of generations, each providing additional functionality required by current and future embedded systems.

The ARM Instruction Set Architecture page of this website gives general information on the these variants.

More details of the instruction sets implemented on the various architectures can be found in the references given in our FAQ: "Where can I get information on the ARM and Thumb Instruction Sets?".
