downarrowWhat technical support does ARM provide for Linux?
Applies to: General Integrator Issues, General Versatile Issues, Integrator, Versatile

[New 29 Aug 07]

ARM does not provide technical support for Linux. This is because Linux is open source software and not a commercial ARM product. However, we do provide assistance with getting our pre-built Linux images up and running on our development boards.

If you are having problems with this, please first read through this FAQ. If this does not help you solve the problem - please fill in our online support request form, including: The version of Linux you are trying to run, the output of the "printenv" command in U-Boot and any terminal output before the failure. When asking for support, please remember to include your development board serial number, so that we can verify that the board is covered by a support contract.

If you are developing your own Linux drivers, we are happy to answer questions related to our hardware - but cannot assist with queries about Linux driver development, or any other Linux-related development questions.

If you are having problems with the functionality of the pre-built Linux images or an image built from the sources on www.kernel.org, we still cannot provide technical support - Linux is a free operating system, developed by a number of contributors. Our pre-built Linux images are offered only as a basic demonstration that it is possible to run Linux on the boards.

We have an FAQ which describes the basic method for rebuilding the Linux kernel images for our boards. This is the extent of the information we can provide on this subject.

If you require Linux support, you need to get in touch with a company which provides such. There are several commercial Linux vendors who provide this service for a fee.

Apart from this, there are free public forums providing information about Linux on ARM - such as http://www.linux-arm.com/ and http://www.arm.linux.org.uk/.
