downarrowHow do I configure semihosting in RVD?
Applies to: Multi-ICE, RVD Debug, RealView Developer Suite (RVDS) 2.0, RealView Developer Suite (RVDS) 2.1, RealView Developer Suite (RVDS) 2.2, RealView Development Suite (RVDS) 3.0, RealView Development Suite (RVDS) 3.1, RealView Development Suite (RVDS) 3.1 Professional, RealView ICE (RVI)

Semihosting is a mechanism that captures I/O requests made by code running on the target (typically library code), and communicates these to the host system for handling. For example application printfs will by default appear within the debugger console window. Semihosting may be enabled or disabled from the debugger.

Semihosting may be set for a single debug session from the Debugger Internals tab of the Register Window (see Where do I find Debugger Internal Variables in RVD?). The available options are No, Standard and DCC for Multi-ICE and True/False for RVI.

Semihosting may also be set for a particular target connection via the Connection Properties dialogue. To do this:

  1. Open the Connection Control Dialogue ('Target -> Connect to Target' or 'alt+0').

  2. Ensure you disconnect from the target BEFORE making these changes.

  3. Right click on the connection, for example Multi-ICE, and select ...Properties. The appropriate branch in the Connection Properties window will automatically be opened.

  4. Drill down through the tree to:
    .. Advanced Information
       -->Default
          -->ARM_config

    Semihosting may be set here for the new connection default, then select File -> Save and Close.
Note: To use the new setting you must now connect to the target.
