Performance and configurability
The Cortex-M7 is ARM’s highest-performing Cortex-M processor. It combines a six-stage, superscalar pipeline with flexible system and memory interfaces including AXI, AHB, caches and tightly-coupled memories, and delivers high integer, floating point and DSP performance in an MCU.
Energy efficiency at the heart
This new processor builds on the successful low power and silicon-proven Cortex-M3 and Cortex-M4 processors which have been licensed by leading silicon vendors. It uses a low-power processor design with extensive clock and power gating. Partners are able to fully customize their design in order to minimize power consumption.
System compatibility
The Cortex-M7 processor takes advantage of the same easy-to-use, C friendly programmer’s model and is 100% binary compatible with existing Cortex-M processors and tools. Along with all Cortex-M series processors, it enjoys full support from the ARM Cortex-M ecosystem. Software compatibility enables simple migration from Cortex-M3 and Cortex-M4 processors. The addition of error recovery through Memory Error Correction Code (ECC), full data trace, and full safety documentation enable silicon vendors to enter markets with safety-critical requirements.
