Considering an ARM1176-based design?

The ARM1176 is still actively being licensed for application processor and baseband processor designs due to it's maturity, low level of implementation risk, and low implementation cost. For Partners designing cutting edge application processors and SoCs for web connected products, the Cortex-A5 processor provides higher performance in less area and power, with full entitlement to ARMv7A optimized ecosystem software.

The ARM1176 processor performance reaches up to 1GHz and beyond in 40G, and can reach 1GHz in 65nm with overdrive voltages, Lvt, and speed binning typical silicon. For static power optimized designs, the ARM1176 processor can deliver performance in the 500MHz range on LP processes. Implementation can be even faster with process optimizations.

The ARM1176 processor delivers significantly better performance on media rich workloads than the ARM926EJ-S™ processor. The relative performance increase on EEMBCv2 suites is 22% on a per/MHz basis. Further performance gains over ARM9™ family processors are possible with the higher max frequencies supported by the ARM11™ architecture.
