Mobile computing – Why ARM?

OVERVIEW

As the internet becomes an integral part or our daily lives, the future of computing rests in devices that are truly mobile, provide  all-day use, are always connected and deliver rich internet experiences. By providing high-performance, low-power solutions, ARM is enabling its Partners to create the most innovative and advanced products in this space. Moving beyond the original netbooks, new devices such as smartbooks will combine the connectivity and battery life of smartphones with the internet and multimedia experience of notebooks.

CONSUMERS AND END USERS

The processor wars are well known in the PC industry through direct marketing and high-profile press coverage. What is not well known is the broad range of consumer electronics devices that are enabled by ARM processors.  The number of mobile and tethered devices enabled by ARM’s semiconductor Partners, far surpass the number of PCs that ship each year.  This includes the majority of the mobile and smart phone market, portable media players, personal navigation devices, and now some of the new classes of mobile computing devices between smart phones and laptop PCs.
