Description: The Nightingale Personal Patient Monitor 2 (PPM2), health monitoring instrument was recently demonstrated at the Embedded Systems Conference. The device runs Windows CE on an Applied Data Systems XScale-based single-board computer. The PPM2 is apparnetly one of the first patient monitors to run Windows CE. The patient monitor can gathers vital data, including blood pressure, heart rate, EKG, respiration rate, blood oxygen saturation, and temperature. Using an integrated modem and the patient's existing telephone line, the monitor transmits the collected data to a health care provider as part of a home health care monitoring system. All of these measurements are to be carried out using "strap on" sensors that require no drawing of blood.
