French Companies Add IVY Extension For Origyn Web Browser

French energy provider EDF’s R&D team and software company Pleyo, a Web-based solutions for CE devices software vendor, have jointly provided an IVY extension mechanism for Origyn Web Browser (OWB) - the open-source Web Browser for Consumer Electronic devices - to www.sand-labs.org

IVY is an open-source, lightweight protocol developed by the CENA. It has several implementations in different languages and is used to enable communications between heterogeneous applications.

This extension aims at providing a way to operate IVY directly in JavaScript from the browser, bringing IVY-based application development to a new level of Time-to-Market and User Interactivity.

OWB together with the IVY Web Extension will send commands over the network using IVY protocol to an IVY-X10 gateway. The gateway will then send commands to the X10 appliances, Pley explained. X10 is a Home-Networking Protocol.

The latest version, OWB v3, targets consumer devices, including phones, portable media players, and set-top boxes. OWB v3 can be built with glibc or uClibc for a number of processor platforms, including ARM, according to the Pleyo.
