Cellular Subscriptions Jump In China & India Cellular subscriptions have jumped in China and India, fuelled by a large number of the people in the two countries getting their first cell phone, according to a report. Thanks to growth in China, India and Africa, cellular subscriptions continued to grow rapidly during 2007, according to a report by market research company In-Stat. The number of worldwide cellular subscriptions in 2007 grew by 667.6 million over 2006. Due to some areas approaching saturation and a relatively slow world economy, subscription growth in 2008 is expected to be much less, according to a forecast by In-Stat. By 2012, yearly growth in subscribers is expected to decrease to only 163 million per year, roughly twice the population increase projected in that year.
