Teachermate Handheld For Young Students Features ARM

Innovations for Learning Inc, a US based non-profit has rolled out an ARM powered handheld computer specifically targeted at early elementary students.

The device, dubbed Teachermate, has been designed to resemble a handheld games console, quickly attracting young students to play with it, yet is rugged enough to withstand being used by 5 year-olds. The teachermate has no moving parts. Instead of a hard drive, the teachermate uses only flash memory.

Teachermate  is build around a 200MHz 32bit ARM9 processor with 500MB NAND Flash RAM and a 16 bit LCD display. There is also an SD card slot for future expandability.

The teachermate includes a built-in speaker and a jack for a headphone as well as a built-in microphone for the student’s voice recording. The teachermate can be charged by either an AC/DC adapter or by a USB connection to a personal computer.
