Nordic Tyres Deploys Nordic ID ARM Powered Handhelds

Nordic Tyres, specialists in tyres for winter conditions, has utilized Nordic ID’s PL3000 ARM powered handheld terminals alongside its automated ID materials management system.

The Nordic ID PL3000 handheld system, powered by a Sharp 200 Mhz ARM processor, can be utilized with a computer with Web-based applications, with terminal emulation or via native software, depending on the information system required.

The system used by Nordic Tyres utilizes around 40 RFID scanners and over 1000 RFID tags, making it the largest RFID deployment in Finland, according to the company.

The previous system had relied on marker cards being used to note the location and quantity of materials stored for production. Nokian Tyres operates using Kanban principles with just-in-time stock management, so a real-time system was needed to ensure fast and accurate materials flow.

The new automated ID system relies on a combination of fixed point RFID scanners and handheld barcode scanners to track the movement materials so they arrive at the right place at the right time. The Nordic ID PL3000 is used to update the location of the materials cart when being checked into storage and then again when being delivered to production. The real-time updates provided by the PL3000 keep the goods moving according to demand.
