Linux Development Kit For Portable Multimedia Devices

Microcross, Inc. has debuted the an embedded Linux development kit, the GX-Linux, which is being targeted at portable multimedia devices.

The platform is for the Cogent CSB735 with Freescale's i.MX21 that is already shipping from Cogent Computer Systems. The i.MX21 target processor runs at either 266 or 350 MHz and is designed for low-power, low-cost, high performance products for multimedia applications, including portable devices such as cell phones, digital cameras and MP3 players.

Cogent's CSB735 module integrates a Freescale i.MX21 SoC and is built in an SODIMM-sized format. The ARM926EJ-S-based SoC boasts a number of functions, including MPEG 4 compatibility, plug-and-play connectivity together with security and power management features.
