ARM in the Outback: Helping Farmers Protect Water from Wildlife - Volume 7, Number 4, 2008

Synopsis:
Researchers from two Universities in Australia have collaborated on an innovative, ARM powered, animal recognition system that utilizes solar panels, a computer and webcam to separate domestic farm animals from wildlife. The solution allows farmers to ensure their livestock get water and feed, while reducing the grazing pressure on already drought-stricken livestock properties in rural Australia. The researchers have used Machine Vision Technology (MVT) to identify animals and control their movements through automated gates to access feed and water stations.
