As product categories converge, devices in the home are increasingly required to supply more performance and handle an increasing number of tasks. The ARM Cortex-A8 processor with NEON media processing extensions provides a high-performance target with special focus on media applications, enhanced security and such execution environments as Java. The Cortex-A8 processor offers high performance through several features that bring its performance to the next level. Additionally, NEON technology offers the flexibility to run an ever-expanding array of media standards efficiently in software. TrustZone technology provides the foundation for personal data and high-value content security. Rounding out the story, Jazelle-RCT technology allows for efficient Java execution, and the strong software support for the ARM architecture enables capabilities such as the full Internet experience even on home devices that have not required such capabilities in the past.
