Author:
Anand Iyer and Susan Runowicz-Smith, Cadence Design Systems

Synopsis:
Low-power is demanded by several handheld applications. ARM is the leading provider of handheld processor solutions. Cadence is the leader in providing tools to design low power chips. In this paper, we outline a reference flow for designing an advanced low-power SoC based on the leading ARM 1176 microprocessor. This reference flow was put together to demonstrate power reduction without sacrificing the overall schedule time. Based on the Silicon Integration Initiative Common Power Format to capture designer’s power intent, this reference flow provides an integrated flow across the various tools. Designers can use this reference flow when they design their SoCs with ARM 1176 processor and achieve very low-power for their designs.Current Issue Cover
