Indoo.rs Mapping and Measurement Tool (MMT) by indoo.rs

Application Software

Product Description

The Indoo.rs Measurement Tool (MMT) is used to import maps of an indoor location, measure Wi-Fi fingerprints within that location and save the calibrated combination of the map and Wi-Fi fingerprints for usage in an application (e.g. by an end user). The MMT is available as a Windows or Linux application that can run on ARM-based machines like Windows RT tablets using Qualcomm's dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor as well as Microsoft's Surface and Asustek's Vivo Tab RT (based on Nvidia's quad-core Tegra 3 processor) .

Maps can be imported in .png files.  Then the indoor map  is associated with a geo-location by selecting a location on an outdoor map, and the rotation of the indoor map is defined (to align the building with a street, for example). The longitude/latitude coordinates and location can also be entered manually. Multiple maps representing multiple floors can be added and for every floor the scale of the map has to be defined by entering the known distance between two points on the indoor map.

Once a building has been mapped, positioned and scaled, the Wi-Fi measuring process can start. The measurement location is selected on the indoor map, and Wi-Fi measurements (fingerprints) are then taken. Measurement duration and the distance between measurement locations must be selected - these can impact the accuracy of the indoors localization. Measurement time can be set to automatic for best results (depends on the Wi-Fi environment, for example).

Finally, features such as walls and portals/elevators of the physical location can be added to the map using the map editor in the MMT . Adding walls make localization more accurate as the Indoo.rs technology will take this in into account in terms of signal transmission properties and for routing purposes. Portals can be added to enable accurate routing across multiple floors. Logical zones can be fined as well to set triggers - for example for geo-fencing applications.

Buildings and associated Wi-Fi fingerprints can be saved to the Indoo.rs cloud or locally on the machine.  Likewise, building and fingerprint maps can be imported again.
