The S901 is highly integrated wireless LAN (WLAN) Baseband and Medium Access Control (MAC) processor that provides the combined functions of the IEEE Standard 802.11b Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) and 802.11a/g Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) baseband modulation. ARM IPs used in the S901 include Standard Cell, PMK and Memory compilers.
Both IEEE 802.11g (2.4 GHz) and 802.11a (5 GHz) standards are supported by the S901 family. The S901 works seamlessly with SCI 102x/103x Radio Frequency (RF) transceivers to provide a complete IEEE 802.11a/b/g wireless client solution which provides lower Bill of Materials (BOM) cost through higher integration, lower component count, and lower power consumption than competitive solutions.
For security, the S901 supports the IEEE 802.11i security standard through implementation of Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)/Counter Mode CBC-MAC Protocol (CCMP), Wi-Fi Protocol (WPA), and Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) with Temporal Key integrity Protocol (TKIP) security mechanisms. The WAPI encryption is also supported by S901 chip. For video, voice, and multimedia applications, the SCI 9011 supports Quality of Service (QoS-WMM).
