Size is important – even in 65nm, less gates is always better than more. Furthermore, in deep submicron technology the leakage current is so significant that the less gates you have to leak the better your power performance.

We all know that power consumption is also important. The battery life today of a 3G phone in 2G mode is very noticeably different than when it is in 3G mode. In WiMAX and LTE the processing requirements are much greater still so the power issue is a real problem.
Full mobile WiMAX wave 2 solutions only require a maximum clock speed of 250MHz to run on LeoCore. Coupled with the very small gate count, even in a worst case scenario of constant full usage and no power management, the power consumption using Coresonic’s technology would still be less than 50mw in a 65nm process. Now if we add power management and real-life usage patterns, the actual figure would be a fraction of this.
