The Helix DNA Client is the universal digital media playback engine, supporting playback of any format and codec on any device. It is the underlying digital media platform for the RealPlayer for Windows, Mac and Linux as well as the Rhapsody player for Windows. It is also the industry-leading media engine for multiple handsets.

Helix DNA Client contains a complete stack of components that allow for playback of several formats and codecs from local storage, or through industry-standard network streaming protocols such as RTSP/RTP/RDT/HTTP. In addition, it allows for a rich user-experience by providing media management functionality components such as a Media Library Manager, Metadata/Thumbnail Engine and Download Manager. Helix DNA Client can also be used for advanced multimedia use-cases such as capture/encoding of audio & video and conversion of media files from one format to another. The majority of the functionality is cross-platform(OS/Architecture independent) while the platform-specific functionality is abstracted into documented C++ classes in order to make porting to specific platforms easy. Several ports of Helix DNA such as Windows Mobile, Symbian, Linux, Android are already present in the Helix Community.
