The NAND Flash Controller IP core for high-capacity Multi-Level Cell (MLC) and Single-Level Cell (SLC) NAND Flash memories provides System-on-Chip developers with a comprehensive way to minimize time-consuming hardware and software development as well as leverage emerging embedded application technologies.
It is a design ready to use in such applications as mass storage devices (i.e. USB flash drives, digital cameras, digital voice recorders) or embedded storage appliances (i.e. cellular phones, network routers, point of sale systems).
The NAND Flash Controller leverages many important features proven in many SoC designs, like support for SLC/MLC memories with 512 B - 32 KB page size, 32- to 256-page wide memory blocks and 40-bit address width. ONFi 1.x and 2.x standard compliance guarantees seamless operation of the NAND Flash Controller with a variety of memories from diverse vendors.
Adjusting the IP core to different system buses is straightforward thanks to a variety of available interfaces, like AMBA® AXI, AMBA®AHB, and more, also customer or application specific ones.
Another significant feature of the Evatronix NAND Flash Controller is the implementation of BCH algorithm which allows error correction of from 2 to 32 bits, with 2 bit steps. Upon customer’s request, the number of errors corrected by the BCH module can be configured in software.
The latest version of the NAND Flash Controller introduces Dynamic Power Save Mode for even more efficient power management.
Last but not least, all asynchronous, source synchronous and toggle mode (Samsung) operation modes are supported.
The IP core is delivered in VHDL or Verilog source code with a complete set of synthesis scripts (Synopsys) and the simulation scripts and macros (Mentor Graphics, Cadence). Standard deliverables also contain a chip-level NANDFLASH-CTRL design that uses the IP core and illustrates how to build and connect memory and tri-state buffers as well as an extensive HDL Test Bench, documentation set and thirty days of e-mail technical support and a three-year warranty against defects.
