Product Description

The Sarnoff H.264/MPEG-4/AVC Codec (Encoder/Decoder) enables the encoding and playback of H.264/MPEG-4/AVC video on handheld and portable multimedia devices. Sarnoff’s codec permits faster time to market while allowing product-specific trade-offs among visual quality, cost and battery life. The codec is a highly enhanced, software-driven solution that was optimized for use on an ARM 926 processor. It is easily ported to other processors. Years of Sarnoff’s renowned video expertise was leveraged to develop optimal encoding algorithms for the handheld and portable multimedia device market. Included with the software is a library of optionally implemented hardware acceleration blocks which attach through the AHB bus. The user can determine the right tradeoffs between battery life, performance, and silicon area for each specific application by selecting different variations of the hardware acceleration blocks.
