Cascade – The Coprocessor Synthesis Solution
Cascade is an automated coprocessor synthesis solution that increases SoC processing performance by accelerating tasks executed in compiler executable software code offloaded from the main processor, reducing power consumption by enabling task execution at a lower system clock speed.
Cascade extends the re-usability of existing SoC design platforms and their associated legacy software when the main processor cannot meet increasing performance and/or throughput challenges. It not only eliminates the costly and time-consuming re-development necessary to upgrade the core SoC platform hardware and software, but also speeds the adoption of new application software to fulfill changing market requirements.
The coprocessor’s programmability delivers significantly greater re-usability than can be achieved by the use of a dedicated non-programmable hardware accelerator, while its task-specificity enables it to consume fewer hardware resources than those of an additional general-purpose processor. Consequently, Cascade delivers the optimum combination of processing power, re-usability and silicon area efficiency.
