Developed by Superscape in collaboration with ARM, Swerve is the world’s first commercially available JSR-184/M3G compliant solution for wireless devices, comprising a powerful software 3D engine (Swerve Client), a professional development environment (Swerve Studio) fully integrated into 3ds max(TM), and a large catalogue of branded games covering all genres.
Currently produced and marketed by ARM, Swerve Client is a highly optimised software-rendering engine bringing console quality 3D Java (and native, incl. BREW) applications to wireless devices. Swerve Client abstracts the more complex requirements for building interactive 3D applications, making it easy and fast for designers and programmers to create content without the need for detailed knowledge of such techniques as 3D rendering. It also provides a low level immediate mode API for use by expert graphics programmers.
Swerve Client is currently available in two editions.
Swerve Client SR provides OEMs with the lowest cost Bill of Materials (BoM) for the delivery of console quality games on mass-market devices, and requires no additional graphics libraries.
Swerve Client ES is an implementation of Swerve that utilises OpenGL ES to execute many of the rendering functions required in JSR-184/M3G. It provides OEMs with the benefits of both the high-level scene tree API necessary to enable downloadable games and low cost development, together with the power and increased graphic quality delivered by dedicated hardware accelerators.
Swerve Client has already been licensed by 3 of the top 5 handset manufacturers: Motorola, Siemens and Samsung and several Swerve Powered devices have already been announced. Please visit www.superscape.com/devices/ for a full list of Swerve Powered devices.
Key to the success of Swerve are its full compliance with the Mobile 3D Graphics API for J2ME(TM), the close relationships that Superscape has built with leading players across the wireless value chain, and the validation and backing from the world’s leading processor designer, ARM.
Swerve licensees also benefit from the backing Swerve has gained from a growing number of global content players such as 20th Century Fox, Activision, Disney and Sony Pictures Mobile. A large catalogue of high quality, branded 3D games is currently available for licensing and includes titles such as Independence Day, Street Hoops and Tron 2.0.
