New ATAP Partners Support ARM Foundry Program
CAMBRIDGE, UK— Oct. 9, 2002 – ARM [(LSE: ARM); (Nasdaq: ARMHY)], the industry's leading provider of 16/32-bit embedded RISC processor technology, today announced the latest expansion of ATAP™, the ARM technology access program, with the addition of four new US Partners. Automotive Integrated Electronics Corp., eSilicon Corp., Intrinsix Corp., and ReShape Inc. have joined the program, bringing the total number of ATAP Partners to 34. These new program Partners extend the ATAP engineering pool to more than 3,200 engineers.
The ATAP program provides a framework for selecting and enabling competent design centers with the ARM technology necessary for system-on-chip (SoC) designs. ARM® core-based SoC developers are able to use ATAP Partner services for some of the more complex tasks associated with SoC design, 'bridging the gap' with any skill shortfall the developer may have.
"The new US ATAP Partners join a comprehensive support network that ensures our Partners have the best resources available to produce the best products in the shortest time," said David Lewis, ATAP program manager for ARM. "Drawing on the expertise of 3,200 engineers, developers can count on a vast array of resources and design services support for ARM core-based devices available through our ATAP Partners."
Automotive Integrated Electronics Corporation (AIEC) is a leading designer of Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC) and SoC solutions for the automotive industry. AIEC is the first ARM ATAP member in North America dedicated specifically to providing ARM technology-based SoC solutions for the automotive industry. Developers targeting the automotive industry with ARM Powered® solutions will benefit from AIEC's expertise in bringing high-performance, low-power semiconductor devices to the market.
eSilicon Corporation manufactures and designs custom chips for the world's leading electronics companies. Offering the industry's most flexible engagement model, their experienced manufacturing and design teams provide deep expertise at each step along the way to qualified, packaged, tested, custom chips. By joining the ATAP program, eSilicon now incorporates ARM's leading RISC technology into its portfolio while offering additional design resource expertise for ARM system developers.
Intrinsix Corp. is the largest independent electronic design outsourcing company. Intrinsix architects, designs and verifies hardware and software for complex electronic systems. At the heart of these systems are often SoC devices used in networking, wireless, medical and digital media applications. As a result of the demanding features and time-to-market requirements of these applications, Intrinsix rapidly delivers its SoC hardware and deeply embedded software to customers by using state-of-the-art co-design and co-verification techniques. As an ARM Approved Design Center, the design support offered by Intrinsix's highly-experienced engineers will continue to be available to ARM Partners.
ReShape, Inc., is an integrated circuit (IC) physical design outsourcing company that serves customers doing COT design. ReShape uses an automated physical design flow to build GDSII from netlists faster and more reliably than traditional manual/scripting methods. ARM Partners will take advantage of ReShape's unique complex IC design know-how in a highly automated physical design flow that sits on top of the highest-performance commercial EDA physical design tools available. ReShape is ideally positioned to extend its expertise in IC physical design to other ARM Partners.
About the ATAP Program
There are currently 34 Partners in the ATAP program, with a resource of more than 3,200 engineers available to work on ARM core-based SoC designs. ATAP design Partners must go through a strict qualification process to become an ARM Approved Design Center. This includes a design flow audit, training on implementing designs with ARM cores, tools, AMBA® interface peripherals and development techniques. Each Design Center must demonstrate its own unique skills in specific technology domains, as well as end-market expertise. The ATAP program also provides additional benefits such as geographic and time-zone locality and local language support. For more information on the ATAP program, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the ARM website.
ARM is the industry's leading provider of 16/32-bit embedded RISC microprocessor solutions. The company licenses its high-performance, low-cost, power-efficient RISC processors, peripherals, and system-on-chip (SoC) designs to leading international electronics companies. ARM also provides comprehensive support required in developing a complete system. ARM's microprocessor cores are rapidly becoming a volume RISC standard in such markets as portable communications, hand-held computing, multimedia digital consumer and embedded solutions. The ATAP program is enjoying considerable plaudits from its members:
"AIEC designs ASICs and SoCs to the exacting standards of its customers. Now, with direct access to ARM technology, AIEC has the ability to design high-performance, low-cost SoCs based on ARM microprocessor cores. The combination of ARM microprocessor cores with AIEC's and third party pre-qualified automotive peripheral sets allows the customer to substantially reduce time-to-market. Additionally, the production-proven microprocessor cores and peripherals provide significant product differentiation through higher performance and lower cost than that of a standard product."
Richard Gauer, president and CEO, Automotive Integrated Electronics Corporation
"Our decision to join the ATAP program is the logical consequence of eSilicon's success with ARM technologies through their SUDL (Single Use Design License) program. Official recognition as an ARM Approved Design Center will enable us to deliver a more complete spectrum of IP, design capability, manufacturing, assembly and test to our customers."
Hao Nham, vice president and general manager of Design Services at eSilicon
Intrinsix provides complete design services for clients developing ASIC, system-on-chip (SoC) and Application Specific Standard Products (ASSP). "Intrinsix has the most experience integrating ARM processors in multi-processor SoC designs in the industry with 25+ designs under our belt. Becoming an ATAP member further substantiates this experience and expands our ability to quickly bring ARM processor and peripheral solutions to a broad base of clients."
Josh Schissler, vice president of business development, Intrinsix Corporation
"Combining the ARM technology access program and ReShape's unique complex IC design know-how, we are able to offer the best IC service experience to our customers for COT design. The ATAP Partnership enables ReShape to augment its offering to include ARM technology. Partnering with ARM provides us the tools to work with design teams to build high-quality IC layouts faster, more reliably, and more efficiently than labor-intensive layout services."
Bob Dahlberg, vice president of marketing, ReShape Inc.
