Meet Ramachandran: ARM Graduate Memory Verification Engineer

Degree: MSc System on Chip

University: University of Southampton

ARM is a very popular brand among the electronic engineers. ARM defines itself as a microprocessor architect. ARM architecture is used by some of the biggest names in the electronics sector, such as Intel, ST, Lucent, and Texas Instruments. Having completed my Postgraduate degree, I aimed at gaining industrial experience in one of the top tier SoC Companies. During my course I had researched ARM architecture, when looking for features to be implemented in the microprocessor design project. I have also heard of a legacy in the University, from my professors that ARM have hired Southampton graduates in the past, which turned out to be true as the panel for my interview were Southampton University Alumi. One of my friends who was also hired by ARM gave me more insight into the organisation and had recommended ARM as being an excellent employer.

After receiving an offer from ARM, I joined the Bangalore office in February 2009, where I am currently working with the Memory design group of PIPD (PIMG). During the first few weeks, I had received training on the new memory flow which has been recently introduced. Since then I have also attended various internal training programmes conducted for ARM employees. Currently I am involved in the verification flow of the Memory Compiler Validation Programme (MCVP) and thoroughly enjoying working with ARM.

The interview procedure at ARM was very well planned, focused and well directed. I felt very comfortable & confident with the interviewers and was easily able to relate to the job role and work environment. The recipe for a successful interview would be clear thoughts, confidence and strong fundamentals.

I feel very happy and fortunate to be working in a very intellectually stimulating environment. My colleagues, project manager and technical lead have been patient, understanding and supportive. Most of them have been associated with various projects at ARM and bring in a lot of knowledge and experience with them. I have the opportunity to work with some of the best engineers, in some of the most challenging projects. I feel good about being treated like a responsible employee by doing the on job training. I would like to thank the Human Resources department in both Cambridge and Bangalore for their extensive support and swift actions to facilitate my induction into ARM. The Administration, IT and Security support provided are also next to none.

There is lots to do other than working hard in ARM (you could be discussing the simulation and timing errors during lunch..!). There are cultural and sports events conducted. Recently there was a table tennis, carrom board and darting event held at the cafeteria. Several NGO’s have been visiting ARM seeking some involvement from the employees. I had recently volunteered to donate blood in a camp organised by ARM & Sankalp. There is a newly introduced ARM e-Zine internal magazine to publish some interesting thoughts.
